STOWE CAMP-DATE CHANGE
IN ORDER FOR US TO HAVE THE BEST POSSIBLE PRE SEASON CAMP, WE HAVE ELECTED TO PUSH THE DATES OF OUR STOWE CAMP BACK ONE WEEK.  THE DATES OF STOWE CAMP ARE NOW
DEC. 12TH TO DEC. 18TH.
HAVING PUSHED THE DATES BACK HAS ALLOWED US TO KEEP THE REGISTRATION OPEN UNTIL THE END OF THIS WEEK.  THESE ARE THE SAME DATES THAT WE HAVE GONE TO STOWE THE PAST 3 YEARS, WHICH MAY WORK BETTER WITH SOME SCHOOL SCHEDULES. THERE IS STILL LIMITED SPACE AVAILABLE FOR THIS CAMP FOR ATHLETES AND CHAPERONES, SO IF YOU'RE INTERESTED DOWNLOAD THE REGISTRATION FORM FROM OUR WEBSITE UNDER 'RACING'.

WE WILL ACCEPT REGISTRTAIONS UNTIL THE END OF THIS WEEK - FRI. NOV. 27.

COACHES TIP OF THE WEEK
Your coaches tip of the week is brought to you by Coach Alex Addison.

Every skier uses an expert pole plant on every turn. Why? Because the proper use of poles is an extremely important part of being a great skier and ski racer. The pole plant has a major influence on your skiing.  If your poles are too long it may be difficult to swing them. You may drag your poles a lot, which can cause you to stand too tall and interfere with your ability to move your body through a cleanly carved turn. If your poles are too short you may ski with a hunched over upper body. A short pole will also cause you to reach out too much to contact the snow resulting in a bizarre skiing style. None of us want that!

To determine the correct pole length, place a ski pole upside down with the basket resting on top of your fist and against your thumb. Bend slightly at the knee, as if in a skiing stance and place the pole grip on the floor just in front of your feet. Make sure the pole shaft is straight up and down as you observe the angle created by your upper arm and forearm. This angle should be ninety degrees with your forearm parallel to the floor.

SKI SIMULATOR - Prepared by Bebe Zoricic

If you don’t have access to the ski slope, or an indoor skiing facility; the next best thing is definitely the Ski Simulator. This new machine is the closest thing that has ever been produced to replicate the movements of proper ski technique. It is also accessible 365 days a year. This machine allows the athlete to experience and feel the same movements and coordination as they would in a technically correct carved turn. It is not an exact replication of all the nuances of skiing, but it is close, and I believe the limitations are also what makes the machine so effective. It helps the athlete to remove the various layers of sensory input, so the athlete can focus on the basic and important coordination of movements required for good skiing. The advanced computer receives input from the athlete’s body position, and edge angles, to create the movement of the machine. The athlete is therefore forced to correct their timing and movement to make the machine respond the way they want it to. It is amazing how quickly the athletes change things they have been doing for years in this environment just to get the machine responding properly.

Because these are feelings some of us have never had on snow, it is difficult in the traditional skiing environment to make these changes happen. This machine will make the job of both the coach and the athlete easier; as they will both have the same goal now in mind, and have a tangible feeling to compare it to when they get on the snow. In addition to this, the skiing specific muscle development and muscle memory developed with the simulator will pay huge dividends back on the snow. Physically training these specific ski movements will help prepare our athletes for competition. Check out the website for details and video. http://4seasonsskiing.com/
